Music streaming giant Spotify reportedly stopped working on iPhones on Friday evening. Several users on social media pointed out that the app was closing unexpectedly and deleting and reinstalling the app was not helping either. However, the app was working on Android devices and the glitch seemed to be iPhone specific.
Spotify has acknowledged the glitch and stated that the issue is being investigated. “Something’s out of tune. We’re currently investigating, and we’ll keep you posted here!” Spotify tweeted.

Here are three common questions every Spotify users are asking:
- Why is Spotify not working on my iOS 8?
- Is Spotify even compatible with iOS 8?
- How can Spotify hang and quit unexpectedly on iOS 8?
Spotify App Crashing Ios 12.4
There are many more similar complaints, but we will cut the long story short. We know Spotify app crashes and freezes on iPhones and iPads. It has been acting up since iOS 8 beta. Now, even with the stable iOS 8, Spotify hangs, doesn’t load, and crashes.
So how can we fix this problem? What’s the solution?
You certainly cannot wait for the next spotify update, or even for the new iOS 8 update (which may require several weeks). And you don’t have to downgrade Spotify app to older version. Why? Because fortunately, we have two ways to permanently stop Spotify from crashing, and here they are:
Solution 1: How to Fix Spotify Crash Using Language Settings
Note that this method requires you to switch the country in your iOS language settings. From your Apple iPhone and iPad:
Spotify++ Ios 11
- Tap on Settings, and go to Language & Region
- Change the country to another
- Now change back to the same country
Example: If you are from the US, change to UK country. In the step 3, you will change back to US. Now, launch Spotify and it should work again without crashing or freezing.
What it does: As you open Spotify, you will notice the screen hangs. Then, after few seconds, Spotify freezes and quits. Method 1 forces Spotify to run smoothly (and quit crashing) on iPhones and iPads running iOS 8. Credit goes to @SpotifyCares for sharing these steps.

Solution 2: How to Fix Spotify Crash By Reinstalling The Spotify App
As reported by many users: Spotify app is compatible with iOS 8. It is also working fine on our iPhones. However, if you are still facing problems, and your latest Spotify app crashes at startup, then we suggest you to reinstall it. There is a trick involved here, which we have explained below:
- Go to the App Store and type “Spotify” in the search box
- Tap on Spotify icon and tap “Uninstall”
- Do not download Spotify app right away. Wait for 5 minutes.
- Reinstall Spotify from the App Store by clicking on “Install”
What it does: The trick here is to wait for sometime before you reinstall Spotify app. Every iOS app can be removed instantly, but it takes a while for the core files to erase themselves from your device. So waiting for 5-10 minutes will get rid of old Spotify files, after which you can install it again.
Note: The latest version of Spotify is 1.7.1. You have to reinstall only through the App Store, and not through iTunes on your computer.
